National Adoption Day

Increase Awareness

November 22

National Adoption Day was celebrated on November 21st, 2020. The event was commemorated with a special proclamation signed by Chief Justice Roger Burdick. National Adoption Day is an effort to increase awareness that there are more than 125,000 children in the nationwide foster care system waiting to be adopted and 523 children in Idaho waiting for a forever home. Although the event is typically celebrated in courthouses across the state with adoption hearings, cakes, teddy bears, and photo ops, this year, judicial districts had to identify creative ways to celebrate due to the pandemic. The Family Court Services Office in the 6th Judicial District encouraged the community to show support by asking people to decorate office doors with adoption-themed décor, photos of which were then posted to a Facebook page where they competed for the most “likes.”
